Finding stylish, and quality clothes is no easy task. Shopping on a budget is always hard to do, but there are tips and tricks us budget fashionistas use to get amazing finds, without busting the bank account. Just yesterday I got myself two outfits and a shirt for my son for $31. It’s really easy; here are my tips:
Shop Thrift Stores
Thrift stores are full of amazing stuff, at rockbottom prices. Yes most of it has been worn before, but so has the vintage that celebrities wear on the red carpet. If they can do it, so can you. Thrift stores are great for clothes ( I always get amazing leather skirts at thrift stores. The one by my home sells them for $10 bucks!) shoes, bags, and even furniture. Sometimes with the furniture you have to be a bit handy, but most of us can use paint and a paint brush.
I can’t even begin to tell you how many awesome bargains can be found in your local thrift store. My MIL ,got my SIL, a Longchamp bag, and a Tory Burch bag, with each costing less than $20 bucks. I got a gorgeous brand new looking Anne Klein skirt for $5. The deals are endless. Try hitting up locations in wealthier neighborhoods, where they have a lot of high end stuff.
Charity Sales
Check out the synagogues, churches and other religious institutions in your area for charity sales. Many will hold clothing sales with items being as cheap as $2. Yesterday I accompanied my friend to YI of Jamaica Estates charity clothing sale. I got a Teri Jon knit outfit for $15. A Flannel shirt with the tags still on for my son for $3, a Banana Republic skirt for $5, and an Ellen Tracy Jacket for $8.
Shop Discounters
Places like TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Daffy’s, Loehmann’s Century 21, (A NY fav) Syms,(about to be defunct, so get yourself there fast) ; they are fabulous places to get a bargain. They often have designer labels with Loehmann’s and Century frequently having higher end labels, at amazing prices. Even better are the sales at these places, when the deals are steals!
Check Local Garage Sales
Garage sales are abundant in most suburban neighborhoods. Someone else’s junk may just be your treasure. Check craigslist and your local paper, for listings. You never know what you can find.
Flea Markets
Flea markets tend to be big in the summer, or warm climates year round, and usually operate over the weekends. Some flea markets are year round or even semi indoors, like those near Lancaster, and the Chelsea flea market. I once got the most amazing silk asian inspired skirt at the Chelsea flea market for $5. Flea markets take patience to sort through all the crap, (and trust me there is a lot of crap) but for those willing to wade through it, you will most likely be rewarded.
The trick to being a budget fashionista, is really just knowing where the the loot is. Happy shopping and enjoy being fabulous on a budget.
